This practice is unable to transfer prescriptions from private healthcare providers to NHS prescriptions.
Whoever issues a prescription is legally responsible for it, therefore Prescriber cannot be asked to issue a medication advised by a third party as they may not have all the relevant information available to them.
Private hospitals seeing NHS patients will have access to NHS prescriptions and these should be issued if required, the practice will not be able to transfer a private prescription to a NHS one.
If the medication on a private prescription is needed urgently then the patient will need to pay for the private script.
If the medication is not needed urgently, the patient will have to wait for the clinic or discharge letter to be received at the practice before we can issue. This document will advise the prescriber of the consultants advised treatment plan and reasons for issuing the medication. This will be at the prescriber’s discretion to issue on an NHS prescription.
